2002 chevrolet silverado 1500 review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. Car-like drivability with traditional truck styling. introductionthe chevrolet silverado is the second-best-selling pickup in america, but that still adds up to a lot of trucks. This truck is every bit as technically advanced, every bit as car-like and user-friendly as its aero-look competitors. It rides, handles, and stops as well as, maybe better than, the best of them. Silverado prices still start about $700 below ford's f-150. Three trim levels are available: base, ls, and lt. The so-called half-ton range includes both the 1500 series, with actual payloads ranging from 1593 to 2334 pounds (depending on bed, cab, and drive configuration), and the heavier-duty 2500 series with payloads in the 2600-3200-pound range.  silverado 1500 models are available with a 4. 3-liter v6, 4. 8-liter v8, or 5. 3-liter v8. The 1500 hd crew cab and 2500 are powered exclusively by a 6. 0-liter v8.  (three-quarter-ton silverados are badged 2500hd and 3500, and offer payloads up to 6089 pounds. Look for those in a separate nctd. Com review.). walkaroundsilverado's frame is the stiffest and lightest truck frame general motors has ever built. The front frame rails are hydroformed, a process that uses high-pressure hydraulics to shape large and complex components that used to be fabricated from smaller stampings. Tubular crossmembers and roll-formed mid-rails increase rigidity even more. This stiff structure enhances handling and ride quality immensely, while improving crashworthiness.  the front suspension comprises aluminum upper and lower control arms, with coil springs on two-wheel-drive 1500s. These feature a delayed-upshift mode for towing. They are excellent transmissions. interiorlike its exterior design, silverado's interior reflects traditional chevrolet thinking. The doors and door openings are the largest in the industry, and the cab is the roomiest.  the instrument package looks like a cross between a corvette's and a traditional pickup's. All use pleasant, highly legible white-on-black graphics.  the sound-system control panel is located above the climate controls. There are three 12-volt outlets at the bottom center of the dashboard for radar detectors, cellular telephones, laptop computers, and other accessories.  an lt extended cab we drove awhile back came with six-way power front bucket seats with seat heaters and memory. Air conditioning outlets and a set of drop-down cup holders are built in for rear-seat passengers. A compass is incorporated into the lt's overhead console, along with three storage areas for sunglasses, garage door opener, and small items. When cargo capacity is more important than hauling passengers, the entire rear seat assembly can be removed with a wrench and lifted out through the door.  a more recent drive in a 1500 hd crew cab revealed a really comfortable truck. The back seats are roomy and comfortable, very similar to those in an uplevel suburban. The seats were trimmed in handsome leather and they could be flipped down to provide a big, secure cargo area. This is a great truck for someone who wants a roomy rear seat with interior cargo space and big trailer-towing capability.  about the only thing we don't like about the silverado interior is the design of the interior door handles, which swivel through an up-and-in arc, and felt loose whenever we used them. The system calls for assistance automatically if the truck's airbags have deployed. driving impressionsilverado lt drives like a luxury car and is supremely smooth and quiet. That smooth, quiet, unified feel is largely due to the stiff frame, which isolates the running gear for reduced noise and vibration. A cast magnesium beam behind the instrument panel and a lateral steel beam between the magnesium beam and the right side of the dash further reinforce the stiff body. Squeaks and rattles simply don't happen. This is one strong truck, and its chassis rigidity allows the suspension to soak up and manage bumps and ruts and tar strips so well that its overall ride behavior is near the luxury class. A long, 143-inch wheelbase improves the ride further and enhances high-speed stability.  the 1500hd crew cab model does not ride quite as smoothly. Even the rack-and-pinion system has a fairly wide dead spot in the center when cruising, which chevrolet says is designed to minimize steering corrections on the highway. That's enough grunt to smoke the rear tires at will. We recommend the 5. 3 over the smaller 4. 8. The big 6. 0-liter v8 that comes on the 1500hd delivers a ton of torque for pulling big, heavy trailers.  braking hasn't been a traditional strong point for u. S.-built pickups, but here again the silverado breaks from tradition. Braking force begins only an inch into the pedal travel. A new feature called dynamic rear proportioning improves stability under heavy braking, whether the truck is loaded or empty. Anyone used to the brakes in the previous-generation chevy pickups and full-size suvs should be very pleased with the brake-pedal response and stopping performance. summarychevrolet silverado is overall the best among full-size pickups. Chevy's full-size silverado pickups are among the smoothest, quietest, most civilized, best equipped, and most enjoyable trucks we've driven. model lineup1500 2wd: short box regular cab 17,518); short box extended cab 22,537); ls short box extended cab 24,484); lt long box extended cab 29,658);r1500 4wd: ls short box regular cab 23,724); lt long box extended cab 32,778);2500 2wd: ls long box regular cab 24,314);r2500 4wd: lt short box extended cab 34,123). assembled inpontiac, michigan; fort wayne, indiana; oshawa, ontario, canada. model testedlt short box extended cab 29,358). 2001 dodge ram 2500 review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. A heavy-duty full-size with everyday comfort. introductionthough it's now the oldest design among current full-size pickups, the dodge ram may still be the best-looking truck on the market. Clearly, it's the most stylish.  it drives and rides well with quick steering and excellent brakes. Five engines are offered: 3. 9-liter v6, 5. 2-liter v8, 5. 9-liter v8, 8. 0-liter v10 and two cummins 5. 9-liter diesel inline-6 choices. Every engine comes with a choice of 5-speed manual or 4-speed automatic transmission. Short and long beds are available.  the 5. 2-liter v8 produces 230 horsepower, while the 5. 9-liter v8 generates 245 horsepower and an impressive 335 pounds-feet of torque. The basic cummins diesel produces 235 horsepower and 460 pounds-feet of torque, while the new-for-2001 high-output version cranks out 245 horsepower and a stump-pulling 505 pounds-feet of torque.  standard, club cab and quad cab bodies are available in lt, laramie slt, and sst trim levels. The bold design with broad-shouldered front fenders is reminiscent of big freightliners steaming down the road with a full load of logs. It remains the best-looking pickup on the market. To improve structural rigidity, dodge designed a beam that runs laterally under the truck, and reinforced both the a and c pillars. Side door guard beams were also added to improve protection from side impacts.  the optional sport package comes with a body-colored grille and front and rear bumpers, decals, fog lamps, outline white letter tires, and cast aluminum wheels. The absence of a b-pillar makes it much easier to get in or out of the rear seat; it also makes it much easier to stick something behind the front seats. This includes a new steering wheel design, a big storage compartment, an extra power point, and new cupholders designed to handle any commercially available drink container. Other recent improvements include a keyless remote entry system, an upgraded base sound system, a cassette and cd sound system option and a new center console. The instrument pod features vacuum-fluorescent odometer and trip odometer that are tamperproof, and there are driver-programmable keyless entry key fobs. Other interior features include heated power mirrors, illuminated power door locks and window switches, and an optional security alarm system.  the front seat in all rams is divided 40/20/40, with a huge fold-down center section that doubles as armrest and writing table. When no one is sitting in it, the center position provides a large storage box, with divided spaces for coins, cassettes, maps or a laptop computer. The front seat belts are integrated into the seats themselves, which gets rid of messy hanging belts -- a particularly nice improvement for the wide-open quad cab doorway.  the quad cab rear seat is the same one used in other extended cab versions. It's handy for children, pets and petite adults, but it is not very comfortable for adults on long trips. The bench portion of the seat flips up out of the way effortlessly from either side for hauling tools or cargo. The power window option comes with an express-down switch on the driver's side. Steering wheel mounted radio controls are optional. There are two new overhead console designs; one with and one without trip computer. This engine has a ton of torque and a broad power band, which makes it a great deal of fun to drive. Passing is effortless. The manual transmission can add flexibility in off-road situations, but we recommend the automatic for street use. Rear suspension is a conventional live axle with leaf springs designed to carry heavy loads. The dodge v8 pickup truck has for years had a special kind of presence on the street, and the ram backs up that presence with excellent street manners and ride.  steering revisions that were new last year make steering much more precise than earlier models. Steering in the earlier rams was light and quick, but had a lot of dead space on-center and seemed to require constant left-right adjustments.  braking, with discs in front, drums in rear, is exemplary. The ram stops quickly with superb straight-line stability. Recent improvements to the instrumentation, powertrain and body combinations have made it an all-around better truck.

2007 dodge magnum review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. This baby hauls more than cargo. introductionthe dodge magnum is a full-size american station wagon with spacious cargo capacity. It's engineered for safety. And all-wheel drive is available for all-weather capability. But what makes the magnum special is its hot rod styling and rumbling engines. There's nothing else quite like it.  the headliner is the srt8 with a 6. 1-liter v8 hemi that puts out 425 horsepower and 425 pound-feet of torque to propel the magnum to 60 mph in about five seconds. It's especially quick for a big american station wagon. The magnum srt8 can reportedly accelerate from 0 to 100 and back to 0 in less than 17 seconds.  however, it's not necessary to go to the srt8 to enjoy the magnum experience. The magnum experience begins with the 3. 5-liter v6, about 10 grand cheaper than the srt8. Or kick up a notch with the r/t and its hemi, a rumbling 340-hp 5. 7-liter v8. The least-expensive magnum is the se with a 2. 7-liter v6 that gets 21/28 miles per gallon and retails for less than $24,000.  while these cars are not miserly, there is some attention given to fuel economy. For 2007, the magnum is largely carryover, but with changes to option packages. All models benefit from the addition of a palette of new exterior colors, standard privacy glass, an automatic oil change alert, and low-risk deployment air bags. Dvd-based navigation with gps is widely available. Standard equipment includes premium cloth interior, air conditioning, cruise control, power windows and locks with remote entry, a 60/40 split rear seat with center armrest, am/fm/cd sound system, tilt-telescoping steering column, rack-and-pinion steering, 17-inch wheels and disc brakes.  the sxt 26,855) comes with a 3. 5-liter single overhead cam v6 and a five-speed automatic with autostick. Sxts are available with all-wheel drive 29,285). The sxt comes with abs with brake assist, all-speed traction control and electronic stability control, aluminum wheels, tinted glass, cargo cover, and an eight-way power driver's seat. For 2007, the convenience group iii 375) bundles automatic headlamps, one touch express up and down front windows and dual-zone climate control. Also available on the sxt this year is a gps navigation system 1,895).  the r/t 31,040) gets the 5. 7-liter v8 hemi and a five-speed automatic transmission with autostick. The r/t is also available with all-wheel drive 33,040). The r/t features a leather interior, bigger and beefier brakes, a 19-gallon gas tank, 18-inch polished aluminum wheels, dual exhausts, foglights, and a boston acoustics premium six-speaker sound system with a 288-watt digital amplifier. An updated road/track performance group tweaks the v8 for an additional 10 horsepower, adds 20-inch wheels and performance suspension 3,350).  the srt8 37,670) features the 6. 1-liter v8 hemi and a five-speed autostick automatic. Manual air conditioning is standard on the srt8, as are power-adjustable, sport-bolstered front seats; cruise control; power locks, windows and mirrors; power adjustable pedals; esp; antilock brakes with brake assist; and 20x9-inch forged aluminum wheels with goodyear f1 high-performance tires. The uniquely tuned, load-leveling, tauter and firmer suspension lowers the srt8's ride height by half an inch. Brakes are vented disc front and rear.  options include dual-zone automatic climate control; a power passenger seat; heated front seats; electronic vehicle information center; electrochromic rearview mirror; air filtration; self-sealing (but not run-flat) tires; hands-free cell phone capability; power adjustable pedals; gps navigation system with integrated six-disc cd/mp3 player; rear seat, dvd entertainment system; sirius satellite radio; sunroof; roof rack; cargo cover and net; and load-leveling shocks. One of the several paint colors, inferno red, costs extra 225).  safety features on all models include advanced multistage dual front airbags and the latch child seat anchor system. Side-curtain airbags designed to improve head protection for front- and rear-seat occupants are optional 390). Abs with brake assist, traction control, and chrysler's electronic stability program are optional 1025). walkaroundthe styling of the magnum is so distinctive that a picture will say far more than words can. It's a long, low, beefy station wagon on a wide track, with a big bold grille and a chopped top. It would be an understatement to say the magnum has presence.  however, it's not called a station wagon, at least not officially. The epa classifies it as a sport utility. Some call it a sport wagon. The headlamp units are a nice integrated wedge shape. We like them better than those on the chrysler 300, a magnum sibling, which try harder to be retro. The air dam/bumper cover wraps up under the headlamps and grille, and looks impressively beefy and functional. The srt8 gets a mesh grille insert surrounded by a blockier fascia with a more aggressive air dam and enlarged, brake-cooling ducts.  from the side, the magnum looks like it could be rolled onto the floor of a custom rod show. The wheel cutouts are profound, especially imposing with the 18-inch, 10-spoke wheels on the r/t and borderline brutish with the srt8's 20-inchers and ultra-low profile rubber. A big visual effect is created by the tinted glass and roofline sloping back and pinching the rear window. This serves an innovative purpose. The one-piece liftgate is hinged about two feet up into the roof, providing a vast and liberating opening to the cargo area. Dodge lists the cargo capacity as 27. 2 cubic feet with the rear seats up and 71. 6 cubic feet with them down, while the epa total interior volume indicates 133. 1 cubic feet. We did, and the cargo area looks wider, flatter, longer and easier to access than most suvs. It's usually the length and width and flat floor that matter, and the magnum excels by those measurements.  we also climbed in the back seat and crawled around a bit. There was room to do so, only 10 percent less than in the front seat, according to the sae volume index. In people terms, the rear seat's measurements come within an inch of the front's except in legroom, where the rear seat gives up just over an inch and a half to the front. The 60/40 split rear seat seats three people, but a wide, center armrest with cupholders drops down to make it more comfortable for two. There's plenty of head clearance despite the roofline, which poses no rear visibility problem for the driver. Even so, the chopped-top proportions left us feeling a touch claustrophobic in the back seats.  the driver should have no problem finding a comfortable position. Adjustable pedals can help people of small stature (petite women, for example) position themselves farther away from the airbag-equipped steering wheel, lessening the chance of airbag-related injuries.  fabric covers the seats in the se and sxt. Leather comes standard in the r/t and the srt8 and is optional in the sxt. We found the regular seats generally supportive. We really like the magnum's gauges, handsome and all business, white background with black numbers and stainless trim rings.

2005 dodge dakota review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. All-new, bigger, with the only optional v8 in the class. introductionthe all-new 2005 dodge dakota represents yet another bold move into the truck market for dodge. With sales of basic small trucks in steady decline, dodge has redesigned the dakota as a much larger, much edgier and more macho midsize pickup. The dakota is now the largest and by far the most powerful pickup in the segment.  dakota competes against ford ranger, chevrolet colorado, gmc canyon, toyota tacoma, and nissan frontier. As with full-size pickups, competition for compact or mid-size trucks is hot. Though the ranger is dated, canyon, colorado, tacoma, and frontier are totally new pickups for either 2004 or 2005. Dakota's biggest advantage, other than its larger size, is the availability v8 engines, not one, but two of them. Its towing capacity has been expanded to 7,150 pounds, by far the most in the class.  built on a new frame, the new dakota is substantially longer than the previous model with styling that complements the recently redesigned durango suv and ram pickup. Getting in is easy and the redesigned interior is comfortable and convenient with controls that are easy to reach and operate.  underway, the dakota is smooth and quiet. The optional 4. 7-liter v8 burbles subtly in the background when cruising, but really scoots when the throttle is mashed. Yet its fuel economy is rated within 1 mpg of the standard v6's. The steering is light for easy maneuverability in crowded parking lots. Standard-cab pickups have faded in popularity as families are increasingly using pickups for recreation and as a transportation alternative to a car. So dodge doesn't even offer a regular cab dakota.  either body style and all three trim levels come standard with a 3. 7-liter v6. A 4. 7-liter magnum v8 engine 785) is available on all models. A high-output version of the 4. 7-liter v8 is available for the slt and laramie trim levels. Both bodies are built on the same wheelbase. Club cabs now feature small doors to access the rear compartment, which the old model did not have.  club cab and quad cab are available in st, slt, or lariat trim levels. The st trim level comes standard with 16-inch wheels. Slt adds 16-inch aluminum wheels, fog lamps, tilt steering, dual rear seats, and power windows, locks and mirrors. In addition, the mopar aftermarket parts side of chrysler will have dozens of appearance, performance and entertainment options that can be installed at the dealership before or after delivery. The dakota retains the look of the dodge ram and durango, though it looks crisper and the grille is laid back, not vertical. All models come with front and rear tow hooks and tie-downs in the bed.  new to the dakota is an enhanced accident response system or ears, which automatically turns on interior lights and unlocks doors in the event of an air bag deployment, so that medical or response personnel can help faster and easier. interiorjust about everything on the inside of the dakota is new. There are new black-on-white gauges with chrome rings, with the central speedometer about twice as large as the other two gauges. The angular center stack houses the sound system, climate controls and vents. The rear seats are deliberately stepped up on their bases so that rear-seat occupants can see out more easily, and they are split into 40/20/40 folding sections with two rear cupholders.  the driver's seat, the only one we occupied for any length of time, looked good and felt good with its upper and lower support wings and good padding where it counts. Interior room, even for a tall, gangly driver like me, was excellent. It's the best in the class with this new cab size. A center console and lots of cubbyholes provide space to stash stuff.  new interior features for the 2005 dakota include standard head restraints and shoulder belts for all seat positions, taller head restraints, optional sirius satellite radio, and an optional hands-free communications system that uses bluetooth technology to make a compatible cellphone work as part of the truck. driving impressionthe test truck, which was configured for five with front bucket seats, was surprisingly quiet, smooth and civil in its behavior, more like a car than a truck inside. The glass is 20 percent thicker, mufflers are larger, and there's more sound insulation throughout the body and firewall than before. It drives bigger than it looks, with a hefty, ram-like way about it, a nicely muscular street swagger.  the 4. 7-liter magnum v8 engine costs a little extra, but for us it was worth every penny, because fuel mileage barely takes a hit (epa-estimated city/highway 15/19 for the v6, 14/19 for the v8). The 3. 7-liter magnum v6 is rated 210 horsepower and 235 pound-feet of torque. The 4. 7-liter v8 generates 230 horsepower and 290 pound-feet of torque. At highway speeds it settled down into a nice background burble in overdrive fifth gear. Its strong torque means plenty of low-down grunt for pulling payloads of up to 1,800 pounds or towing up to 7,150 pounds.  the transmission has perfectly spaced ratios for trucking, and worked without complaint, roughness or harshness, even in high-rpm full-throttle upshifts. With only two occupants and no load, it really scoots from the stoplight despite the nearly 4800 pound weight of the quad cab 4x4. The chunky steering wheel feels great in the hands. The truck tracks extremely well, responds quickly to inputs, and stays hunkered down during mountain road playtime. Its 265/70r16 bfgoodrich wrangler tires were both grippy in corners and very quiet at highway speeds, adding a measure of plushness to the ride quality that we really appreciated. And the dakota start. Bucket Seats✔ Power Windows✔ Anti-lock Brakes✔ Cruise Control✔ Leather Seats✔ Chrome Wheels✔ Bluetooth✔ Aluminum Wheels

2006 chevrolet equinox review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. A solid midsize sedan as good as toyota and honda. introductionthe chevrolet malibu midsize sedan blends a smooth ride with responsive handling, a quiet interior, effective crash performance and noteworthy build quality. A new fuel-saving 6-speed automatic transmission with tapshift manual control is standard on all 2011 malibu models. Onstar 9. 0, the latest version with improved voice recognition, comes standard with six months of directions and connections service with turn-by-turn navigation. The seats are very comfortable, with plenty of front-seat room. The back seats offer generous legroom. Trunk space is tight, however.  we found the malibu pleasant to drive. It's smooth and comfortable, striking a nice balance between well-controlled handling and an even ride. It has with plenty of power when equipped with the v6.  choosing among the best midsize sedans largely comes down to nitpicking, splitting hairs and personal preferences. The camry and accord may have an edge on resale value, but they're also likely to come with higher price tags. In any case, we don't see the gap between this chevrolet and the imports that we used to see. Malibu, camry and accord, and the ford fusion are all superb midsize sedans. A 3. 6-liter v6 is optional and it comes with hydraulic power steering.  malibu ls 21,975) comes with air conditioning, cloth upholstery, power height-adjustable driver's seat with lumbar adjustment, cruise control, 60/40 split-folding rear seat, power windows, power mirrors, power locks, remote keyless entry, tilt/telescoping steering wheel, am/fm/cd/mp3 stereo with xm satellite radio and auxiliary input jack, outside temperature display, automatic headlights, six months of onstar 9. 0 directions and connections service with turn-by-turn navigation, and p225/50r17 tires on steel wheels.  malibu lt 22,825) adds steering-wheel audio controls, ambient lighting, body-color mirrors, more bright trim, carpeted floor mats, new- for-2011 bright aluminum wheels, and a longer option list. A long wheelbase provides ample interior room for occupants and a smooth, quiet ride.  the body design is bold, long and sleek, with an especially appealing roofline that looks like it belongs on a luxury car. The bodysides are completely clean and uncluttered, and the twin round taillamps pay homage to the corvette. The dual-port grille is a contemporary chevrolet design cue, which gives the malibu a distinctive look, and distinction is an important goal of the midsize sedan designer. Everything is within arm's reach and easy to operate. This design is brought into the 21st century with wood and metallic trim and a very pleasing blue-on-white instrumentation graphic treatment that's flooded with blue light at night.  less noticeable are thoughtful features such as ambient lighting. A feature associated with expensive luxury cars, and recently popularized by mercedes and bmw, ambient lighting helps the driver and front passenger find secondary controls and items around the center console. A cubby on top of the dash is convenient for smaller items and is a very useful feature.  cloth, faux-suede and leather interior options are available. The standard interiors are monotone, but several two-tone interior combinations are available, including a dramatic black-and-saddle leather combination that's very attractive.  we found the leather seats in the malibu ltz quite comfortable. Piping in a contrasting tone dresses them up. The front bucket seats are somewhere between sumptuous and luscious in the way they look and the way they sit, and are very comfortable and supportive.  the long wheelbase affords each occupant plenty of room, and there is ample headroom and legroom in the rear compartment for six-foot-plus passengers. The backs of the front seats are dished out to add knee room. The rear seatbacks flip down to provide a pass-through to the trunk.  while the trunk has 15. 1 cubic feet of cargo volume, the stylish rear pillars are pushed to the far back of the car, creating a small trunk opening that won't accept large boxes.  cubby storage includes a dashtop storage bin, door cubbies, and seatback pockets. We've never cared for roll-up sliding covers on center consoles due to their ability to attract crumbs, dust and debris. Ambient lighting for the overhead console and door-pull pockets adds convenience.  overall, the malibu interior is attractive and comfortable. The quality of the interior materials is good. We think the malibu's interior compares well to the cabin of the honda accord. In fact, it may be more attractive, though the material on the steering wheel hub and the hard plastic on the lower dash aren't as nice. However, the malibu has an attractive leather shift boot when the leather upholstery is chosen, and the accord does not.  every malibu comes with satellite radio and the latest version of onstar with turn-by-turn navigation. However, there's no gps navigation system, nor is there a back-up camera. Chevrolet says many people prefer to use their portable gps units and relatively few want to pay for an oem navigation system. We've heard that view from respectable drivers, but we prefer in-dash units. In fact, we found it easier and less confusing to make adjustments in the malibu than in a comparably equipped (without navigation) honda accord. The honda seemed less intuitive and convenient, the chevrolet seemed more intuitive and convenient. Unlike the accord, the malibu has the audio controls at the top, which is better because people tend to fiddle with sound systems more than temperature controls.  remote starting is available. This lets the driver start the car by pressing a button on the key fob from the comfort of the house on wintry mornings, allowing the car to warm up while the driver sits inside sipping coffee. That same feature can be used with air conditioning on sweltering summer afternoons. driving impressionthe suspension soaked up rough mississippi farm roads with grace and competence, and kept the car straight and flat without a lot of pitching and body roll. On pockmarked chicago streets, though, we did experience some jolts in the rear suspension, but they were pretty rough streets.  the steering is reasonably quick and precise, but without much real road feel. The thoroughly modern v6 has 252 horsepower and delivers performance that is good, if not sparkling. Most families will find no shortage of power or performance.

2004 chevrolet trailblazer review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. Smooth and civilized, but ready to blaze trails. introductionchevrolet trailblazer is powerful, rugged and capable, yet smooth, comfortable and civilized. Its rigid chassis, sophisticated suspension, powerful brakes and impressive details place it among the best of the mid-size suvs. It comes standard, but a v8 is available as an option. The ext needs the v8 due to its heavier weight. Due to its much longer length, the ext lacks the handling and stability that make the standard trailblazer great. Equipped with the v8, a trailblazer ext 2wd model can tow up to 7,100 pounds.  new options for 2004 include adjustable pedals, xm satellite radio, and navigation radio. lineupthe 2004 chevrolet trailblazer comes in just two trim levels, ls and lt. Additional option packages for the lt bundle automatic climate control, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, a driver information center, and rear seat audio controls 585-$1310); and heated leather seats with memory, power adjustable pedals, cd/cassette stereo, and power and heated foldaway mirrors 1360-$1605). Exclusive options for the lt include a bose sound system 495), and a rear-seat dvd entertainment center 1295).  the north face edition 1525 on top of the price of a preferred-equipment lt, or $1725 on a preferred lt ext) includes all of the equipment listed above, plus unique north face seats, mesh map pockets, rainsense automatic wipers, headlamp washers, 17-inch wheels with on/off-road tires, liftgate lighting, an under-floor storage cargo liner, heavy-duty floor/cargo mats, an adjustable cargo shelf with a table (ext model only) and north face duffel bags and blanket. The north face also sports exterior clearance lights and some unique exterior identification. A locking differential 270), two-tone paint 150) and skid plates (with 4wd, $130) are mandatory options with the north face edition.  trailblazer ext ls 29,695) and trailblazer ext lt 31,595) are equipped with third-row seating and separate rear-seat heating and air conditioning controls. A sliding electric sunroof is available for all models 550-$800). A trailer-hitch is standard on all trailblazers. The standard final drive ratio for trailblazer and ext is 3. 42:1; 3. 73 and 4. 10 ratios are available 50) for more responsive towing though the 4. 10 ratio is not available with the v8 engine. Gm's onstar security system is also offered as a stand-alone option 1235 on ls, $870 on lt). It provides gps tracking, cell phone communication, and emergen. walkaroundtrailblazer's styling helped blaze the trail for the latest chevy truck design. It's an aggressive look with bold headlamps and a split grille. The horizontal bar that splits the grille, headlamps and turn signals is chromed on the ls, body-colored on the lt. The front bumper features a large opening with two vertical slats, and the optional foglights are mounted down low. The front end of the trailblazer makes it look like a scaled-down suburban or silverado.  overall, trailblazer looks sturdy and neat, with confident lines that express utility. The pillars and window lines are graceful, while big fender flares are visually bold. At the rear is a convenient step in the center of the bumper. The stacked round taillights look lumpy and googly eyed.  the track (the distance between the left and right tires) is the widest in the class, 2. 2 inches wider than the explorer in front and nearly an inch wider in rear. The seven-seat trailblazer ext is 16 inches longer in wheelbase than the standard five-seat trailblazer. interiorpeople either like the relatively cushy seats in gm trucks or they don't. Seat adjustments are manual in ls. Eight-way power operation with memory (including outside mirror adjustment) and seat heaters are available on fully optioned lt models. Chevrolet says the trailblazer's front bucket seats are designed to accommodate heights ranging from 4 feet 10 inches to 6 feet 2 inches. New for 2004 are optional adjustable pedals 150), allowing shorter drivers to move the brake and accelerator pedals up to three inches closer for better positioning and comfort without having to move to close to the airbag-equipped steering wheel. It's a great feature and is popular among women.  standard-wheelbase trailblazers seat five passengers, while trailblazer exts seat seven. The main advantage of the ext is that third row. Second-row space is nearly identical between trailblazer and trailblazer ext. The corresponding numbers for the trailblazer ext are 38. 5, 45. 9, and 31. 2.) trailblazer ext is 2. 6 inches wider than explorer, which accounts for the additional hip room. But clearly, the explorer's independent rear suspension, and resulting low floor, allowed ford to pack more leg and head room into a significantly shorter wheelbase.  a monochrome instrument panel is new for 2004. The instrumentation is complete and clean. A big tachometer is on the left, speedometer in center, and on the right are smaller gauges for water, battery, gas and oil. Heating and air conditioning can be controlled separately by the driver and front-seat passenger. Ext models add separate climate controls for rear-seat passengers as well. Interior lights abound, including reading lights.  the center console includes an open storage bin, an enclosed compartment and two cupholders forward of the gear lever (plus two more for the rear passengers). There are pockets in the front doors and behind the front seats, though none in the rear doors. Standard behind the rear seat is a small hidden compartment under the floor, while optional features include a cargo net, scrolling tonneau cover and power outlet. An overhead console standard on the lt includes a sunglasses holder, plus travelnote digital recorder.  available sound systems include radio/cd, radio/cd/cassette, six-disc in-dash cd, or six-speaker 275-watt bose system. We found the bose system offered outstanding sound quality and adjustment versatility. All the systems include rds (radio data systems) technology, allowing the listener to search for stations by type, display information including song and artist information, and provide traffic and weather updates. Also available is a rear-seat dvd entertainment system 1295), with a seven-inch flip-down screen and wireless headphones. Xm satellite radio 325) is available on all trailblazers in the continental u. S., and provides 100 coast-to-coast, digital-quality channels of original music, news.

2006 dodge grand caravan review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. Smooth riding and responsive, most come with a powerful v6 engine that delivers strong acceleration for merging onto hectic freeways. Anti-lock brakes and side-impact airbags are available. And there's a model for every budget.  dodge redesigned the seating system last year, and the result is one of the most versatile interiors available for a family vehicle. Called stow 'n go, the optional system features second-row and third-row seats that flip down into the floor, leaving a huge, perfectly flat cargo compartment behind the front seats. And its cargo space is more accessible and more convenient than that of suvs.  with the seats in place, the grand caravan can carry seven. Selectively folding away the seats allows versatility in hauling a mix of passengers and cargo. No need to pull the seats out and store them in the garage or to try to put stuff on top of them.  the current model dates back to 1996, but dodge has continuously improved it since then. The 2005 model year brought substantial upgrades. It comes with hand-crank windows, manually adjusted mirrors, and a limited list of options, although rear-seat video entertainment is now available on all caravan models. It does have standard air conditioning, variable intermittent wipers, am/fm/cd stereo, and 215/70 tires on 15-inch steel wheels. The tire-pressure monitor is standard, but stow'n go seats are not available.  caravan sxt 22,225) is the short van equipped with a 3. 3-liter v6 and a higher level of standard equipment, though it does not get stow 'n go. Sxt does add second-row bucket seats, dual-zone manual air conditioning, tilt steering, cruise control, power windows, power heated mirrors, power locks with remote keyless entry, an upgraded am/fm/cassette/cd stereo, a rear window defroster, sunscreen glass, 215/65 tires on 16-inch aluminum wheels, and other niceties, plus an expanded list of options.  grand caravan se 22,920) is a long-wheelbase base model similarly equipped to the caravan se. But it's powered by the 3. 3-liter v6 engine, and comes with more sophisticated airbags with occupant classification system (ocs) and driver's side inflatable knee blocker. Front seatbelts use pre-tensioners to take up slack during a collision. Middle- and third-row seats include child-seat anchors for a more secure installation. Optional side curtain airbags are designed to offer head protection for outboard occupants in all three rows. walkarounddodge caravan and grand caravan are large vehicles, but not outrageously so. Measuring 200 inches long and less than 5-feet, 9-inches tall, even the grand caravan will fit just about anywhere a full-size sedan will fit. The standard caravan measures 189. 3 inches bumper to bumper. Grand caravan's extra 11 inches makes a big difference in the amount of cargo it can carry with all three rows of seats in place. Caravan rides on a wheelbase of 113. 3 inches, while the grand caravan stretches across a wheelbase of 119. 3 inches.  grand caravan and caravan are sleek and attractive with steeply raked windshields and aggressive grilles. The tracks for the sliding side doors are cleverly camouflaged under the rear side windows for a clean appearance. The d-pillars and rear window are steeply inclined for a sporty look, and a discrete spoiler rises from the trailing edge of the roof. Flared wheel openings add strength to the appearance. Headlamps and tail lamps are big, the latter wrapping around to the sides. The optional roof rack is hunkered close to the roof, stylistically less obtrusive and perhaps less likely to generate wind noise, but also offering less clearance for the thicker hooks of some tie-downs.  for 2005, dodge freshened the caravan's appearance with a new u-shaped grille featuring black bars behind dodge's trademark body-color crosshairs, a design cue shared with the new dodge magnum. Also new was a molded-in license plate pocket and revised fog lamps, while new body-colored side moldings protected the door. These details have continued unchanged for 2006.  models with power sliding doors on both sides add convenience when moving passengers. Press the button on the remote transmitter twice and the door slides open; press it twice again and it slides closed and seals. From the second-row seat, the power sliding door can be opened and closed by pressing a button; it can also be opened manually. A safety lock switch hidden on the trailing edge of the door can be engaged to prevent a child from opening the sliding door from inside. The power sliding doors can be fussy when passengers are in a hurry to get out, however, and passengers usually are in a hurry. Pulling on the outside lever opens the power door manually, with just slightly more effort than opening a regular manual door.  the standard manually operated sliding doors are easy to operate, smoothly gliding open and closed with the pull of a nicely designed lever. The outside door handles are comfortable and well designed; they impart a feeling of quality in appearance and operation. All door handles should be this good.  a power rear liftgate is available that adds convenience when picking up groceries or supplies. Press a button on the remote control and the liftgate opens or closes automatically. The material is soft and appears to be durable. Faux carbon fiber trim added a touch of high-tech to the cabin.  the seats in the grand caravan seemed more bucket-like than those of the similar chrysler town & country, and not as comfortable. The dodge has a manually adjustable lumbar support, however, and the seatbacks seem to have more side bolstering than in the t&c. The power seat adjusters have exposed screws on them that do not feel aesthetically pleasing. The seating position is higher than that of a sedan, which enables drivers to see over traffic. The second and third rows of seats fold flat into the floor leaving a perfectly flat platform for cargo. Folding and unfolding the seats is a quick three-step process. Pull one strap to drop the seatback, then pull two other straps to tuck it into the floor. This leaves a perfectly flat platform. Very few seats fold perfectly flat and no one else (except chrysler) has a second row that does this. The system is also flexible. The third row is split 60/40 and either or both of the second-row captain's chairs can be stowed. Getting into the third row is a little awkward, but easier than in most suvs. Once back there, the third-row seating is comfortable, though the seat bottoms are steeply raked.  grand caravan se and both caravan models come standard with the traditional seating setup instead of the new stow 'n go system, so the seats must be removed to turn them into effective cargo haulers. We found the second-row bucket seats and third-row split bench easy to remove, however. 2001 chevrolet suburban review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. Bigger gets better. introductionchevy's suburban was totally redesigned and re-engineered for 2000. Three trim levels are available: base, ls and lt. Suburban 1500s come equipped with a 5. 3-liter v8. The 2500s are available with a choice of 6. 0-liter or 8. 1-liter v8s.  base 1500 models list for $25,921 in 2wd and $28,837 in 4wd. Base-trim 2500s go for $27,780 in 2wd and $30,780 in 4wd. Ls gets a nicer cloth reclining front bench seat with adjustable lumbar support; and bucket seats are an option. Lt is fitted with leather seating surfaces and premium full-function heated front bucket seats. Lt also comes with electronic climate control, premium cd stereo, the homelink universal garage door opener, and gm's onstar system. All the sheet metal was new for 2000. The entire vehicle looks smoother and more aerodynamic. Sharp edges have been rounded. Most noticeable are the new headlights.  two tailgate configurations are available. A lightweight, one-piece rear hatch similar to those found on compact suvs is useful for families and can be opened with one hand. Chevrolet lists it as a no-cost option. Cargo doors are also useful when pulling trailers because they will usually clear the trailer tongue jack. And i like them because it's easier to control my dog when i open them. The hinges have been re-engineered for a more finished appearance; and they let the doors open wide without having to disconnect the hinges.  a puddle lamp mounted below the side mirrors shines down to light up the perimeter of the suburban. It's a nice feature that can be turned on using the keyless remote when approaching the suburban in a dark parking garage, as it illuminates underneath the vehicle. The third-row seatback folds down without having to remove the headrests, then the whole thing flips forward to substantially increase cargo capacity. A short prop rod locks it into place. This bench seat can be easily removed as it's mounted on wheels; it weighs 75 pounds, however, so get some help before pulling it out the back end of the suburban. Loading cargo is easy because there's plenty of space for it; lift-over height is lower than that of the ford excursion. Lt's leather seats seem more supportive. The second row is quite comfortable. Headphone jacks allow rear-seat passengers to listen to cds while those up front turn on the radio. Getting back there requires folding and flipping the seat out of the way.  though my height-challenged mother-in-law found getting into the suburban a bit of a step up, it isn't a problem for those of standard stature. Step-in height is actually lower than before because of the new fully boxed frame. Driving quickly over wet pavement through the san juan mountains, high above colorado's delores river, we never lost traction. I took turns driving the suburban on the wet, winding road with the road test editor from one of the major enthusiast magazines. Each of us has extensive racing experience, but we were unable to get the suburban to come unglued. We drove into wet turns as quickly as we'd ever want to go in a suburban and never lost grip. The frame is completely re-engineered. The entire front part of the frame is hydro-formed from one piece of metal and is far more rigid than a bunch of pieces welded together.  ride quality in the suburban 1500 is smooth, greatly improved over the previous-generation suburban. The optional premium ride suspension features a hydraulically controlled rear self-leveling system to keep the suburban at normal ride height even when carrying heavy loads. This system offered a good ride quality on the suburban i drove. The more sophisticated optional auto-ride suspension system uses computer-controlled shock damping for improved ride quality over uneven pavement. Whether towing a horse trailer or picking up a soccer team, auto-ride continually adjusts the suspension for optimum ride and handling. This technology also helps reduce dive on braking (so that the nose of the vehicle doesn't dip down unduly), and body roll (or lean) during cornering. Most people find the 1500 models meet their needs.  the 2500 models, often referred to as the 3/4-ton versions, are only needed for those who tow heavy trailers. Rated to tow up to 10,500 pounds, they effectively match the towing capacity of the ford excursion. Suburban 2500 will ride a bit harsher because its rear suspension uses leaf springs instead of the coil-springs used on the 1500. But the 2500 rides surprisingly well, given its load range, a big improvement over the previous-generation 2500 models and smoother than the big ford excursion.  until last year, suburbans came with mushy brakes. Gm redesigned the brake system to address this. The pedal on the new suburban works smoothly and progressively, which makes is easier to stop without drama. A new dynamic rear proportioning system modulates the pressure applied to the rear brakes for more effective braking. Brake pads and rotors are 40 percent larger and use twin-piston calipers. Those in the sunbelt may not see justification for it. If conditions are fluctuating, hit the auto 4wd button and the autotrac all-wheel-drive system automatically transfers power from a slipping wheel to the wheels with the best traction; no input is needed from the driver.  for 2001, the 2500's 6. 0-liter v8 has aluminum heads and a revised camshaft, producing a nice, round 300 horsepower. We haven't tried the new 8. 1-liter v8, but responsiveness from either the 5. 3 or 6. 0 is excellent.  suburban's automatic transmission comes with a tow/haul mode. Pressing a switch on the end of the column shifter changes the shift points of the transmission. The tow/haul mode improves performa. summarywe love the suburban. It's a great vehicle for moving cargo, towing trailers, or hauling people. Power Windows✔ Anti-lock Brakes✔ Bucket Seats✔ Climate Control✔ Sunroof/Moonroof✔ Air Conditioning✔ Leather Seats

2002 chevrolet trailblazer review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. Blazes the trail with engineering advancements. introductionin the midsize suv segment, chevrolet has long been frustrated, watching ford steal the show with the explorer. The 2002 trailblazer is chevy's best shot at reversing that order. It's a total redesign, including a stunning new straight-six engine, stiffer and lighter chassis, sophisticated suspension, powerful brakes and impressive details. The vehicle's 40-month planning and execution was done in a careful, creative, thorough and extremely bold manner. According to gm engineers, the trailblazer exceeds all the targets that had been set for it. The standard final drive ratio is 3. 73:1, with 4. 10:1 available for more responsive towing and 3. 42:1 for higher gas mileage. However the estimated epa rated mileage of 15/21 mpg city/highway is based on that optional 3. 42 rear end (a legal epa loophole) so 'higher' is relative.  some options on the ls that are standard on the lt and ltz include remote entry, cruise control, rear defogger, cargo cover, carpeted floor mats, heated mirrors and gm's onstar security system with gps tracking and cell phone communication, including emergency assistance and remote unlocking. Options on the lt and ltz that are unavailable on the ls include 2wd traction control, running boards, six-disc cd changer and bose sound system.  unavailable on the ls are foglamps, rain-sensing wipers, rear heat controls, leather interior, power heated seats, driver information center, rear seat radio controls with headphone jacks, and 17-inch wheels. The trademark bowtie in the center of the bar across the grille is chrome on the ls, body-colored on the lt and ltz. The bumper under the grille has a large opening with two vertical slats, and the optional foglights are mounted down low.  at the rear, there's a convenient and practical step in the center of the rear bumper, sort of a big notch. But styling-wise, the twin round taillights stacked over the backup light at each corner are kind of lumpy and googly-eyed.  overall, it looks sturdy and neat, with confident lines that express utility. The pillars and window lines are graceful, while the headlamps (split by the grille crossmember), taillights and turn signals are stylish. Big fender flares are used to visually express the vehicle's boldness, and may be either monotone or silver.  the most dramatic thing about the trailblazer may be what's not there: neither a v6 nor v8 engine. The new engine is called the vortec 4200, an all-aluminum, double-overhead-cam, 24-valve inline six with variable valve timing.  years ago chevy trucks used an old reliable straight six, and jeep has long used a more basic straight six in the cherokee, while bmw and lexus continue to use sophisticated versions in high-performance sedans. An inline engine is inherently smoother, simpler, more durable and more fuel efficient than a vee, although in times past, its superior physics had a hard time breaking out of its cast-iron shell. Advancements in electronics, metallurgy and manufacturing methods now enable an inline engine to soar, and for 2002 gm has fully exploited this technical opportunity.  the vortec 4200 is no ordinary straight six. From 4. 2 liters, it produces a stunning 270 horsepower, 30 more than ford explorer's new 4. 6-liter sohc v8. And it has a very broad torque curve peaking at 275 pounds-feet, only 5 less than the ford and coming 400 rpm sooner. It features electronic throttle control, an electrical system using silicon circuit boards (replacing some 1100 feet of copper wire), coil-on-plug ignition (thus no plug wires), and a seven-quart oil pan with a clever tunnel for the front drive axle, which allows the longish block to be mounted six inches lower, contributing to better balance and a lower center of gravity.  attention to detail in other places is evident, from a battery box that draws in cooling air, to remarkably sanitary wiring under the hood, to rear-seat headrests that conveniently flip down for better rearward driver visibility. Because the engine is so quiet and smooth at idle, a feature called 'intellistart' was added which prevents the starter from grinding if the key is turned when the engine is already running. It was the first truck for the trailblazer's chief designer, ted robertson, who brought a resume to the assignment that includes the '90s camaro/firebird. Gm wanted his soul as well as his experience in their midsize suvs, and they got it. His. interiorall trailblazers seat five passengers, compared to the explorer's optional seven seats on a nearly identical wheelbase, with its third row of seats squeezed in (the five-seat explorer has 10 percent more cargo space, thanks to a lower cargo floor enabled by its independent rear suspension). A seven-seat trailblazer with longer wheelbase is in the works. Working with a vehicle width that exceeds the explorer by 2. 5 inches, the trailblazer's rear seats offer slightly less shoulder room but 3. 8 inches more total hip room.  the seats come standard in fabric (ls), cloth (lt), and rich-feeling leather (ltz); adjustment is manual in ls and gains in trickery all the way up to eight-way power operation with memory (including outside mirror adjustment) and optional heating on the ltz. The front buckets are designed to accommodate heights ranging from 4'10' to 6'2', but there is a noticeable lack of side bolstering. The front seats don't do justice to the ride, allowing the occupants to feel a side-to-side jouncing that doesn't exist in the 2002 gmc envoy with the same chassis and suspension but better seats.  interior lights abound, including reading lights. Gm calls the interior lighting 'world class,' developed by the rensselaer polytechnic institute lighting research center in indiana.  the instrumentation is complete and clean. A big tachometer is on the left, speedometer in center, and on the right are smaller gauges for water, battery, gas and oil. Brushed nickel is the basic trim, while wood comes with the leather interior. There are pockets in the front doors and behind the front seats, though none in the rear doors. Standard behind the rear seat is a small hidden compartment under the floor, while optional features include a cargo net, scrolling tonneau cover and power outlet.  the overhead console includes a standard sunglasses holder, plus travelnote digital recorder (optional with ls, standard with lt and ltz), which might be considered an important safety feature, as it allows the driver to orally take phone numbers while on a cellphone, thus keeping at least one hand on the wheel. Heating and air conditioning can be controlled separately by the driver, front and rear passengers (which might be considered a safety feature because it too allows the driver to keep both hands on the wheel, instead of having to use one to fight with his passengers).  depending on the trim level, the sound systems include radio/cd, radio/cd/cassette, six-disc in-dash cd, or six-speaker 275-watt bose system. All the systems include rds (radio data systems) technology, allowing the listener to search for stations by type, display information including song and artist information, and provide traffic and weather update. 1998 ford ranger review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. Great handling on and off road. introductionford has completely redesigned its ranger. We drove a ranger 4x4 in the hungry valley off-road park northwest of los angeles. Rough, sandy roads failed to upset this truck even when it was driven quickly through rutted corners. But what was really surprising was its impressive handling and steering response on paved mountain roads. The front third of the frame now features fully boxed side frame rails for a significant increase in torsional rigidity. A rigid frame reduces unwanted vibration and allows the engineers to design a suspension that more precisely controls wheel movement for improved ride and handling.  as a result, they developed a new front suspension with short- and long-arms that works with a rack-and-pinion steering system borrowed from the ford explorer for sharp steering response and improved cornering stability. When disengaged, all front driveline components are disconnected at the wheels, so fuel economy is improved and noise and vibration are reduced.  the ranger's functional changes are wrapped in a tough new look. New sheet metal from the a-pillars forward lowers the hood line for improved visibility, high-speed stability and fuel efficiency. Ford redesigned the grille, bumpers, head lamps and parking lamps. The hood is aluminum to reduce weight. It is best suited for those who value fuel economy and low emissions. When equipped with the automatic transmission, it allows the ranger to qualify for california's low emissions vehicle standard.  choose one of two v6 engines for serious pulling or hauling power. A 3. 0-liter v6 comes with a revised intake manifold that helps increase torque to 178 pound-feet and 147 horsepower.  a 4. 0-liter v6 generates 223 pound-feet of torque and 158 horsepower; an optional five-speed automatic transmission is available with this engine that we highly recommend.  all engines are kept cooler by bigger radiators. Regular cab wheelbases have been stretched to 111. 6 or 117. 5 inches, depending on body style. Extended cab (supercab) versions maintain a 125. 9-inch wheelbase.  new splash models with chrome wheels are available for the fashion conscious in both 4x2 and 4x4 configuration.  prices start at $11,895. The 4. 0-liter v6 added $450, the 5-speed automatic added $1,105. Options added another $665, but discounts totaled $1,445, resulting in a $22,810 bottom line for a top-of-the-line model. interiorregular cab rangers have been lengthened three inches. That's a big improvement as last year's regular cab models offered insufficient legroom for tall drivers and restricted rake for the seat backs. This year, there's more interior space, increased seat travel, and the seat can be reclined farther. There's also more space available behind the seat for storing stuff and a storage tray has been added to make this more convenient.  we still recommend the roomy supercab models for all but the most serious of work trucks. The big benefits of the supercab are the increased cabin space and convenient storage for gear.  the ranger shares the explorer's dash and easy to use switchgear and instrument panel. Steering response and handling in transient maneuvers could almost be described in sports car terms. Winding over narrow mountain roads north of los angeles, we found the ranger to be a vehicle that inspires confidence in the driver. Before long we were rounding curves with bravado usually reserved for sports sedans.  it rides nice, too. The harshest ride is found in the splash models with suspensions tuned for improved handling. This five-speed automatic shifts as smoothly as a lexus and always keeps the v6 in its primary torque range and its efficiency matches that of the 5-speed manual. It's a great combination. summarythe new ranger may be the best compact pickup truck on the market. The styling is completely different, however, giving each a distinctive appearance. While the ford looks tough, the mazda looks sporty. They are both good-looking trucks and a debate rages as to which is more attractive. Mazda b-series trucks offer a compelling alternative to the toyota tacoma, with the mazda delivering more truck per dollar. assembled inlouisville, kentucky; twin cities, minnesota; edison, new jersey. options as testedxlt trim with air conditioning, cruise control, power windows, door locks and mirrors, aluminum wheels and sliding rear window; 4. 0-liter v6, 5-speed automatic, am/fm/cd/cassette, flip-out quarter windows, leather-wrapped steering wheel, fog lamps, two-tone paint. model tested4x4 xlt supercab. 1995 honda passport review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. Honda’s first sport/utility. From indiana. introductiontwo curious facts distinguish the passport from every other sport/utility on the market. First, it wears the honda emblem, marking the first time honda has ventured outside the realm of cars and motorcycles. An isuzu rodeo, to be exact. Both vehicles are built on the same assembly line at the subaru-isuzu joint venture facility in indiana and share everything except minor trim, emblems and grilles.  we hasten to add that curious doesn’t equate with bad in this case. There’s nothing wrong with the rodeo. But over the years we’ve come to look for technological leadership, recognizable style and intense attention to fit-and-finish details from honda. As a result, finding the honda emblem on a vehicle made by another company is surprise.  the passport is a good vehicle. But it may not meet everyone’s expectations of what a honda should be.  in choosing isuzu for a supplier, honda got what it needed: a vehicle that could go on sale immediately, built by a company capable of producing a best seller (which the rodeo is). And isuzu has plenty of experience in building body-on-frame vehicles, as distinct from the unit-body construction used in most passenger cars. Honda does not.  choosing the passport over the rodeo does have one major advantage: honda’s dealer network is significantly larger than isuzu’s. More dealers means wider access to service and parts. On the other hand, passport prices are slightly higher than those for equivalent rodeos, and isuzu’s basic warranty covers the rodeo for an additional 15,000 miles during the same 3-year period. walkaroundthese factors aside, the passport makes a good first impression. It is a stylish vehicle, one that has enough visual interest and bright trim (especially on more expensive models) to make it blend right in at the country club.  the exterior design has some mileage on it now, about five years’ worth, and it looks a little angular parked next to some of the newer, rounder sport/utility shapes - the new chevrolet blazer/gmc jimmy, for example, or ford’s redesigned explorer. But it has the advantage of being distinctive.  the only external feature we found annoying was the retaining latch for the spare tire carrier. The basic dx version has a 4-cylinder engine and 5-speed manual transmission and is only available in 2-wheel drive form. All three passport models include rear-wheel anti-lock brakes (abs). A 4-wheel abs system isn’t available. interioralthough the exterior design is weathering well, the passport’s interior looks dated with its blocky angles. The tiny push-button controls were irritating to use even when the vehicle was sitting still, and nearly impossible for the driver to adjust when the passport was rolling down the road.  all-around visibility is good thanks to lots of glass, which is, ironically, a trademark of honda automobiles. Extensive glass area usually adds up to interior heat buildup, so windows from the second roof pillar to the back of the vehicle are heavily tinted to help keep the interior cool.  the passport’s 4wd system is designed for part-time operation on low-traction surfaces only. A transfer case lever located in the center console allows the driver to choose between 2wd, high-range 4wd and low-range 4wd. The latter is for very slow driving over rugged terrain.  the passport’s cargo space is more than adequate, with 35 cu. Available when the rear seat is in use. Fold it forward and the space is more than twice as large. Passenger volume is another matter.  we found that comfort in a passport is strongly related to the size of the beholder because the cabin is not quite as spacious as it looks. Additionally, taller backseat passengers commented on limited headroom.  to be fair, though, others thought all the seats were just fine. In town the v6 is smooth, quiet and equals the 4-cylinder’s epa city mileage rating. It’s good on the highway, too, except when extra power is needed for passing situations. Maneuvers such as this require plenty of room because even with its relatively low weight and 175 hp, the passport’s passing performance is no better than just ok.  in any case, even though the passport’s v6 may not provide neck-snapping acceleration, its towing capabilities exceed some of its better-known rivals from toyota and nissan.  aside from a shortage of passing power, the passport can handle whatever it’s asked to do. On paved roads the ride quality is good; nothing less than breaks in the pavement or potholes will upset passengers.  the power-assisted steering is light and precise, and the brakes will take plenty of hard use without any fade or hot-brake smell. And where there’s no pavement at all, the passport still performs well. summarywhen all is said and done, the passport has two drawbacks. The first, simply put, is that it isn’t a 'real' honda. The second is that after five years of production, the basic design has lost its competitive edge against newer sport/utilities. There are more powerful competitors, and quieter ones, too. And there are fresher body designs on the market and more refined interiors. A few opponents - the newly redesigned chevy blazer, for one - top the passport on almost all of these counts.  but the passport is a honda, at least in name, and that carries a couple of big pluses. First, honda’s engineering staff had enough confidence in isuzu’s truck-building know-how to sign off on this project. After all, saving a few bucks tends to make any vehicle just a little bit more attractive. assembled inlafayette, indiana. Anti-lock Brakes

There's no need to drive a truck. IntroductionThough it provides cargo utility and off-highway capability, the Subaru Forester is not a sport-utility vehicle in the traditional sense. There's nothing to fear from snow, mud, dirt, gravel or wet pavement with Subaru's well-designed suspension and excellent all-wheel-drive system. 2000 Subaru Forester Review This car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale Bucket Seats✔ Power Locks✔ Power Windows✔ AM/FM✔ CD Changer✔ Sunroof/Moonroof✔ Air Conditioning✔ Alloy Wheels

Dodge has added new features to the Caravan for 2004, including a tire pressure monitor and a new electronic key fob that integrates security and convenience functions. With room for seven passengers, they can carry half the little league team and the Grand Caravan has room left over for their stuff. 2004 Dodge Grand Caravan Review This car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale

2003 chevrolet cavalier review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. For 2003, the cavalier gets a sporty new exterior and new safety features. It rides well on rough roads, damping road vibration. Cavalier ls models start at $15,480 and include power windows, power mirrors, remote keyless entry, and other convenience features most of us now take for granted. Ls sport models come with sport suspensions and special trim. They are trimmed and priced about the same (sedans are priced $150 higher) and their dimensions are essentially the same. The ecotec 2. 2-liter engine is used for all cavalier models. A five-speed manual transmission is standard on all models. Should an airbag deploy, onstar automatically notifies the system's battery of operators over its wireless network and pinpoints the car's location using the global positioning system (gps) satellite network. Onstar operators will dispatch emergency crews if the driver does not respond to their calls. Onstar personal calling acts as a hand-free cellular telephone using the verizon wireless system.  . walkaroundchevy cavalier gets a fresh new look for 2003. The front and rear of the car are new, with a redesigned hood, fascia, headlamps and grille, and a new rear fascia and tail lamps. The ls sport model also has new rocker moldings and integrated fog lamps. Chrome aluminum wheels, body-color door handles, body-color exterior mirrors are available on selected models. The front end displays chevy's new gold bowtie emblem, featured on the newest 2003 and 2004 models in the chevrolet lineup. Some wild colors are available, including yellow (for coupes), red, white, and blue.  cavalier is an attractive car with flowing lines, rounded fenders and a low-to-the-road attitude. Relatively slender a-pillars and c-pillars enhance driver visibility and contribute to the light, airy feel of the upper body. Dual side mirrors are tucked nicely into the a-pillar. Fashion and styling trends quickly date compact cars and cavalier was beginning to appear dated, but this year's facelift provides some flash.  coupes look sportier than the sedans. Ls sport models stand out with body-color door handles and mirrors, sport front and rear fascia, integrated fog lamps, lower rocker moldings, a rear spoiler, chrome exhaust outlet, and 16-inch chromed aluminum wheels with performance tires.  . interiorchevrolet cavalier has a nice interior design and the interior materials appear to be of decent quality. A hood over the instruments sweeps organically over to the passenger side giving it a contemporary appearance. Power window switches are located on the center console, however, harder to find and more awkward to operate than when they're on the door. Sedan models have a little more headroom and shoulder room in front than the coupes, but legroom is identical. Five cup holders are provided.  the back seat is surprisingly roomy in the sedan. There's decent rear headroom, albeit a bit restricted on the outboard side. The rear seat folds down and is split 60/40 for added versatility. Ls sport coupes get an easy-entry front passenger seat, improving access to the back. Gm's latch system (lower anchor and tethers for children) allows installation of compatible child-safety seats without using the seatbelt.  xm satellite radio is a nice option as there's no need to change from favored music stations (many commercial-free) when traveling. Much of this response is a result of the cavalier's torque, that force that propels the car away from intersections and up hills. The ecotec delivers 150 foot-pounds of torque at 4000 rpm. It's relatively flat in the corners, with little body lean. Power steering is light and responsive: cavalier quickly turns in for corners. Ride and handling have been improved for 2003 by stiffening the structure of the car, and re-tuning the suspension for a sportier, more controlled ride.  the chassis did feel more rigid, more secure when driving quickly down a rough back roads in a 2003 ls sport sedan. The revised suspension dampened road vibration reasonably well. Hitting a series of bumps didn't generate the aftershocks ('bah-lah-lah') associated with older domestic compact cars. The tires, even the performance tires on the ls sport sedan, seemed to lack grip when the car was driven hard. Handling was predictable, however. Accelerating hard from a standstill while making a turn generated some torque steer, that tugging sensation of the steering wheel that's often part of powerful, front-wheel-drive cars, but it was easy to control.  the brake pedal feels nice and firm and the brakes are responsive. Cavalier uses disc brakes in front, drum brakes in the rear, instead of the preferred and more expensive rear disc brakes. Anti-lock brakes (abs) come standard on ls models. Slam on the brakes and the abs steps in, bringing the cavalier to an undramatic stop. Abs can be a real ally in an emergency maneuver because it allows the driver to steer the car in a panic braking situation. Just remember to keep hard pedal pressure on the brakes and don't forget to steer.  . summarychevrolet cavalier is markedly improved for 2003. Handling is sportier and more controlled. Ride quality is smoother and the car feels more solid than last year's model. model lineupcoupe 14,030); coupe ls 15,480); coupe ls sport 16,730); sedan 14,180); sedan ls 15,630); sedan ls sport 16,880). assembled inlordstown, ohio. options as testedside-impact airbags 350); 6-speaker enhanced sound system 100); xm satellite radio 325); onstar safe & sound package 695). model testedchevrolet cavalier ls sport sedan 16,880).
